Are you gold mining online?
Sacramento Internet Business ExaminerRichard Finn Have you ever considered gold mining? Living in Northern California, we are literally at the gateway to the gold fields. One hundred fifty years ago thousands of people flocked through these parts on their journey to what they felt sure was their destiny for riches and glory; each of them dreamed of "striking it rich," and "hitting the mother lode" and then kissing their cares goodbye. I have been up to the gold fields, and have even done a little panning myself. It is hard, back-breaking work. Many miners met their "misfortune" rather than their fortune in the gold fields, and some did not escape alive. Only a very few ever really made good money in the business. But there were a lot of people who got rich in the gold rush, and I will let you in on a little secret - very few of them were miners! The thing about miners is that they need supplies. As they worked their way up to their destination, they had to purchase supplies: they needed picks and shovels, dynamite, as well as food stores and utensils, blankets and bed rolls. So who made the money? It wasn't the miners, in most cases, it was the merchants. In 1849 an entrepreneur was someone who had the foresight to buy a dozen picks and a dozen shovels in San Francisco, and sell them at twice the price on the streets of Sacramento. And these entrepreneurs were savvy enough to capitalize on the eager miners who wanted to waste no time getting to their destination. OK, this is a column about internet marketing, not gold mining. I know, but I think there is a parallel here that you might profit from. Hang with me for a minute. Today's gold miners are not on a physical frontier, but they are on a virtual frontier, and it is called the internet. There are vast amounts of uncharted territory there, and every now and again you can hear the cries of "Eureka!" and "there's gold in them thar hills!" There are literally thousands (nay, probably hundreds of thousands) of internet "gold miners" flocking to it in search of their fortunes. But who is really making money on this wild frontier. Well sure, some of the "gold diggers" will get lucky and hit a vein. They may even ride it to the end and cash out wealthy. But statistically we know that 95% of these seekers will fail. Why? Typically, people enter into the home based business industry by buying into some sort of business opportunity, MLM or Network Marketing company before they really have an understanding of what online marketing really is all about. By itself, this is not a bad thing. After all, every year millions of dollars are made in most of these companies. The real issue is that most of the people that are making the money are the people who already KNOW what they’re doing. Very few of the "rookies" have the fortitude to stick out the hardships to learn the trade. The truth is that most people really don’t know what they’re doing, which leads to this very high failure rate. The first thing that your average MLM or Network Marketing company will tell their new business owners is to make a list and start pitching their opportunity and products to that warm list of family and friends. Honestly, this approach has worked for many decades, but it is very limited in how far it can go, and it is certainly NOT the most effective or efficient way to build a business today. If you are entering into business this way, I would caution you right now. Liken yourself to the miner in 1849. If you had no idea what you were about and you headed into the hills to mine for gold, with no experience and no tools, the likelihood of "striking it rich" would be very slim. (In fact, your very survival and life might be in jeopardy in that situation!) You just wouldn't do it. However, if you stopped into your local mercantile in town and loaded up with picks, shovels, tools, and supplies, you would have a much greater likelihood of finding your success in the gold fields. Today there are many other people who promote and sell tools and resources that help marketers promote their products and business opportunities, just like those merchants who supplied the miners in 1849. As we have already observed, history shows us that the people who made the most money during the gold rush were not the miners, but in fact were the entrepreneurs of the time who were supplying the miners with their goods and tools; yes, their picks and shovels. "I'm an Internet Marketer, Not a Miner" So, you ask, how does this apply to me as an internet marketer? Well, a similar scenario is repeating itself in the online frontier. The people who are making money consistently in this industry are those who are selling supplies (picks and shovels) in the form of advertising, tools, resource training and information products to the Online Gold Miners who are all trying to pitch and sell their business opportunities. It's brilliant! The people who are making the MOST money are the people who are building the most consistent, sustainable, long-term businesses; those who are providing for the needs of the "gold diggers." The savvy entrepreneur does both at the same time! Why not be positioned as the savvy, Professional Gold Miner who also profits from offering picks and shovels to a massive and eager market that is expanding at an exponential pace? And you’ll be doing this in a leveraged and automated way. Why do both? Here is a painful fact: most people searching for information on how to make money online have no interest what so ever in your product, or anyone’s product, service or network marketing company. They came online with a product in hand, and now they want to know how to sell it. The fastest converting prospects are not really interested in being put through the traditional pitch of a home based business and that is why most people find it hard to market their product online. To be successful online, you have to give people what they want most: a way to market their product. Don't go out and dig for gold yourself … yet … start by teaching others how to do it first. People will always buy the "How To" information first before they buy into another product. If you are the one showing them and teaching them how to do the digging, it stands to reason that they will buy picks and shovels from you too, and that is the benefit of using the Marketing System that begins by offering people the training, information, and tools, they need to learn how to market a business online. Once they gain confidence in their ability to market online they will be more likely to buy the actual business opportunity from you as well since you’ve built a relationship of trust and delivered value to them. In short, you’ve GIVEN value to them with no expectation of anything in return and that is what builds a loyal following and repeat sales. And to do this correctly and make it simple, you’ll need to create an effective Front End Marketing Funnel designed to attract people faster, build a targeted list where you will build a relationship of trust and generate immediate, upfront cash flow for your business.
