Google offers free marketing for businesses

Google, the world's largest search engine, is offering small to medium sized Kiwi firms up to $75 dollars worth of free online marketing.

The company estimates up to 350,000 companies are eligible for the promotional offer.

The $75 credit gives new customers access to Google's search related marketing tool, AdWords.

Companies who use AdWords show up as sponsored links on the right hand side of the Google page.

To show as a sponsored link, companies bid for the amount they would pay for click-throughs to their website. The price for click-throughs can be anything from a few cents to a few dollars depending on the popularity of the search term and the number of bidders in the auction.

The top bidder with the best association to what a web user is searching for is placed at the top of the sponsored links.

The company then pays when their ad is clicked.

Google says New Zealand is a tech savvy country and it is keen to see firms make greater use of online advertising opportunities.
