Companies increasing online lead generation

I'm not sure who wrote this article but they are with komarketingassociates and I think they did a great job...here ya go!

A new study finds that a growing number of businesses are looking to the web to increase lead generation, but at the same time they're cutting back on paid search.

According to the new report from Econsultancy, 65 percent of companies say they have increased the use of online lead generation in the last year. This means that companies looking into lead generation now spend more money online - 61 percent - than in any other form.

But while more money is being spent on online lead generation, these dollars are not being spent on paid search. The report finds that there has been a 12 percent drop in paid search over the last year while search engine optimization (SEO) remains the most popular way for companies to get new leads.

Linus Gregoriadis, research director at Econsultancy, said that many firms are turning to online marketing in order to cut costs during the economic downturn.

"Despite online marketing becoming more competitive, many companies find digital channels to be much more cost-effective for lead generation than traditional media," he said. "During the recession, there has been more focus on natural search and email marketing because these channels are often regarded as more cost-effective."

Shifting money to online avenues appears to be a growing trend in this economic climate with Anthea Stratigos, CEO of Outsell recently telling Forbes that her company expects $65 billion to shift from traditional marketing outlets to online segments by the end of this year.
