Firms 'ignoring benefits of Twitter marketing'

 A new report has suggested that many businesses are failing to make the most of social media marketing through sites such as Twitter.

 Emailvision surveyed 102 companies at the Online Marketing Show and found that just three per cent of respondents were considering using social media and blogs for promotional purposes.

 Nearly half of those polled said they preferred to use search engine optimisation and email in their online strategies, but Emailvision stated that these firms should use social media to supplement these campaigns.

 "Getting the basics right with existing channels can free up time and money, offering a solution to these brands," Nick Gold, UK managing director of Emailvision, commented.

 "This time and money can be used to integrate social media into established approaches."

 Twitter recently launched an online guide for businesses on the basics of Twitter marketing and how it can benefit their operations, complete with real-life case studies.
